But the stones we are rolling about, are the ones by CW Designer, Shannon Koszyk. Friend and artist Koszyk has a love for old world Europe and anything with history, story and character. Religious icons, vintage coins, heavy sterling chains and handmade beads populate her rocker chic work and make any wearer instantly feel just a little bit cooler.

Cupcakery Collier West

by Suzi West on December 15, 2010

One of the responsibilities of being a chic shoppe in the Short North, is that you become a trusted ambassador on “what to buy, where to dine and why it’s preferred. “Although the list can be frequently updated, there are definitely some mainstays that are not to miss. Watch for the 2011 CW Picks [Titled CW Aux Choix] as we coast into a new year.

Attend the Drunken Bruncheon this Friday from 9 AM – 12 PM, to conclude our foodie week at CW.

It was a recent honor to serve and celebrate with Columbus foodie Susan Quinn during our five year anniversary. Susan is the founder of Let Us Eat Cupcakes, a local cupcake caterer.  Her work is so refined and elegant, that we prefer to call her a “baketress”. She has developed several signature flavors and works exceptionally well in meeting the needs of her creative clients. When asked for a uber french taste sensation, she concocted a Parisian Quince treat; obtaining a fine quince paste from an equally intriguing resource.

L.U.E.C is unique not only in their authentic and delicious combination, but also in production. Each cupcake is bite sized and petite, allowing for just a pinch of sin. Her work has been recognized by Edible Columbus, The Columbus Alive and by several local corporations who call for her specialties.

In the Spring and Fall seasons, you can find Quinn pedaling her wares at the Pearl Alley Market, but on this occasion, Collier West brings L.U.E.C to you.

We will be premiering her newest recipes during the Drunken Bruncheon, this Friday December 17th at the shoppe. Reserve your space and show your good taste.

Let Us Eat Cupcakes will be offering the Clementine Mimosa cake- A champagne soaked sponge cake infused with clementine juice with a clementine jam center and a whipped mascarpone frosting spiked with champagne and garnished with clementine zest & champagne sugar.

If that doesn’t sound sweet, perhaps the Pomegranate Bellini Cake: A proseco & pomegranate soaked white cake with a pomegrante jam center and a whipped pomegranate buttercream drizzled with pom juice and garnished with pom seeds.

Interested in your own dozen or two of these darlings for the Holidays? Contact Let Us Eat Cupcakes at 614.208.0568 or @ tinsksq@yahoo.com and mention Collier West’s signature french cakes. $30 for two dozen. Please allow 48 hours for all orders. Free delivery within a 5 mile radius of Collier West.  Gift Registry, jewelry, home decór and the shoppe of chic!

What do you think our signature CW cake should be called? Best selects get a free dozen!

Collier Western Omelet

by Suzi West on December 11, 2010

At Collier West, we recently celebrated our five year anniversary, but one of the unique goals yet to be accomplished was to have a specialty or a sandwich named in our honor and service to the community. Working with Katalina’s Cafe owner, Kathleen Day, also a former Limited Brands exec, we got together to conceptualize the Collier Western Omelet.

Ouefs From the Paris Farmer's Market

What egg-xactly is the Collier Western Omelet?
It’s western as in Collier Western but trés French in taste. Goat cheese, spinach and prosciutto lovingly folded into farm-fresh eggs with a touch of herbes de Provence. Served with a salad of fresh spring mix, cherry tomatoes, homemade croutons and balsamic viniagrette, plus a warm baguette with European butter and homemade preserves.

Katalina’s Cafe Corner is the little cafe with lots of local goodness. Garnering a reputation for its independent spirit, from the music it plays to its  eclectic decor, the cafe is really known for its loyal customers and delectable dishes. Little Latin touches like the famous sweet and spicy bacon or slow-roasted Mazatlan pork permeate the menu, but you’ll also find lots of down-home goodness like Hens in a Basket or Green [pesto] Eggs & Ham.  Everything on the menu is homemade and created using all-local ingredients.

These two businesses were a natural partnership, with their deeply rooted independent spirits and dedication to the delivery of fine products and services.

Bon Appétit.

Sunday December 12th, Enjoy the Collier Western Omelet for $5- Bon Anniversaire Collier West!

Decoupage

by Suzi West on December 10, 2010

Decoupage is the art of decorating by adhering pieces of cut paper to a solid surface. These pieces of paper are painted, gilded and/or arranged to create intricate patterns of interest. Decoupage can be created on any solid surface, including plates, vases, trays and furniture.

Fornasetti Plate #118

Fornasetti plates have set the standard for decoupage in home decór. The beauty of the Themes and Variations plates collection is like a journey through the emotions of one woman. Her many different sides, loves and expressions are eloquently created by the hands of a dedicated artist.

John Derian Fork Tray

John Derian is the foremost name in decoupage arts today. His collection is comprised of thousands of designs and appeals to just as many enthusiasts. With an average price below $100, his work is a great solution for home decor and meaningful gift giving.

Newcomer, Ben Busko creates glass trays of vintage maps and endearing quotes. Recently, Collier West contracted with Ben to create custom trays.
Custom decoupage, available exclusively through our design team, is a great way to commemorate and share photos and memories with your loved ones.

Ben Busko's Mae West Tray

Each designer continues the tradition by artistically creating one of a kind pieces by hand. The construction of each piece can take anywhere from several hours to several days to produce. The glass surfaces frequently used in decoupage, can be wiped cleaned, which makes them a great solution for kitchen and bath. The Collier West design team can also assist you with a composition of several hanging pieces. The collective is often fractions of the cost of a large scale artwork.

What is your favorite designer decoupage piece?

How To: Jewelry Business | Part 2

by Scott Hanratty on August 1, 2010

Designer Maggie Smith, an Ohio based artist, shares her wisdom as a long time creator, having worked in the fine arts as well as jewelry design. Maggie recently designed a piece for Stella McCartney and has expert advice on finding inspiration and your path to success.

Maggie states, “Inspiration comes from within. The reward is getting to the place when I know a piece is finished. The piece has a life of its own. I begin with a simple idea and often find the result is not what I had in mind in the beginning. I surprise myself – I guess that is the biggest reward.”

4. Be Inspired, but mostly be motivated.
5. Be well versed on what makes you unique.

Where do you find inspiration to guide your success?
