oil and canvas
I received my B.F.A. from Parsons School of Design, and my M.A. from Syracuse University. I started teaching art in the New York City public schools in 1987. After twenty years in middle schools and eight years in a high school, I’ve recently retired and have the time to focus more on my own work. I’ve been an active member of the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition since 2003. My favorite artists are Klimt, Vermeer, Vuillard, and Monet.
Most of my work is oil on canvas, although I sometimes use watercolors or, more recently collage. I don’t aim for absolute precision in my work. Even though I capture a time, place or figure in a painting that’s easily recognizable, the brushstrokes and splatters are as important as the rendering.
