Kathy Bruce is an artist based in New York City. She received an M.F.A from Yale University School of Art and a certificate from The Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Bruce is the recipient of numerous grants and awards including a Fulbright Hayes Senior Scholarship Grant for Lecturing and Research in Puno Peru 2012 and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Fellowship 2010 -11. Other awards include: Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Individual Artist Grant 2005, Fulbright-Hayes Junior scholar grant to Peru (1983) and a Ford Foundation Grant for sculpture (1981). She has attended numerous residencies including: The Marble House Project, La Napoule Foundation, I-Park Foundation,The Saltonstall Foundation, Stone Quarry Hill Art Park and Millay Colony.
These works are an investigation into structural systems in which I am studying the visual and metaphorical relationships between natural organisms and material culture. The blocks themselves represent the possibility to organize and reorganize these images that once collected, sorted, and classified, reveal their poetic substance.
