ABOUT THIS PIECE
Along the shoreline in Brooklyn, N.Y. is a park named for Shirley Chisholm, the first black woman to be elected to the United States Congress in 1968.
The park is unique for its coastal meadows, wetlands, and woodlands that have been planted with prairie grass and native grassland species. This embroidered canvas captures an early March day before new green growth had begun and the wind blew intensely across a field of dry grass. Embroidery threads have been left untrimmed in the piece adding to the wild feeling of the dried seed pods and flowers.
