Brooks Frederick is a Brooklyn-based, classically trained painter whose work focuses on poetic depictions of the light and the human condition. He holds an MFA from the New York Academy of Art and was a private student of Lennart Anderson, Michael Aviano, and Andrea Smith. Brooks is the founder of the Future Museum program in Brooklyn and the Waterlife Art collective in Louisiana, where he leads collective art-making events to find communal, intergenerational, anti-racist solutions to the issues our society currently faces. He was a faculty member at Brooklyn College and currently teaches high school, undergraduate, and graduate studio art classes at Adelphi University. Brooks lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, with his partner Jessica and currently maintains a studio at the Brooklyn Army Terminal with Chashama.
