" Working from another artist’s work was a new and exciting challenge for me. I found Pile’s photographs both intriguing and inviting. I was immediately drawn to the image that inspired this painting—something about the tension between the cloud and the buildings made me want to join the conversation. It also made me wonder if Pile had been considering the same compositional questions that I was exploring. I especially loved focusing on just the tops of the buildings."
