About the Artist:

Rick Secen is a Brooklyn-based artist who has been working primarily in oil painting since 2015. After graduating from the Savannah College of Art and Design in 2005, he moved to New York City to pursue sound editing for film. Coming from a filmmaking background, his work is deeply informed by storytelling, particularly through the people he witnesses every day.

Secen’s compositions and painting methods embrace the chaos and rhythm of life. Capturing scenes of New York City with a particular sensitivity to atmosphere and changing light.  The works are often saturated with light, atmosphere, and a quiet sense of narrative.

In 2018, Secen held his first solo exhibition, City Witness. In January 2022, he presented his second solo exhibition, Guiding Lights, at Established Gallery in Downtown Brooklyn. Later that year, he was invited by the Municipal Art Society of New York to exhibit in the Doris C. and Alan J. Freedman Digital Gallery with a presentation titled A Light in the City.  In 2024, his work was selected and featured at the Brooklyn Museum’s 200th anniversary exhibition “The Brooklyn Artist’s Exhibition”.
